Are You Sowing Weeds?
I had a dream the other day of pulling weeds with deep roots. I grabbed the weed at the base, dug a little deeper, gripped the root, started to pull, and kept pulling. The root was more than three feet long. I continued to pull one weed at a time and left them piled on top of the ground. The dream interpretation—weeds are interference in our daily lives, entangled, deep rooted that cause distraction and lead you astray. Through the Word of God these weeds are being eliminated.
It’s a symbolic message of behaviours removed in your life to make room for God. The basis of decreasing your needs and wants, or what no longer serves God, and increasing His presence in your life. I delve further on this topic in my blog on He Must Increase, I Must Decrease.
Each of us have weeds that take root internally. Planted as a thought, seeded with increased thought patterns, then bloomed with the tongue.
James 3:8-9
“But no one among mankind can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.”
Once words are uttered, you don’t forget them, if they’re harsh or lift you up, you remember how it made you feel.
Why do we say things that hurt others?
It’s important to identify the root of the thought and its context. Is it judgemental? I know when I’m driving judgement spins a web in my thoughts, “why is that person breaking when no one is in front of them”, “how did they get a driver’s license”, “don’t they know the light is green”. At times, I release a huge, agitated sigh, as I can’t grasp logic in their actions. However, I’m not in a position to judge, I don’t have that authority, only Jesus does. In these moments, taking a pause to question the root of the thought, can help place it at the foot of the cross. For me, it’s not feeling safe behind a driver who isn’t paying attention, or I’m in a hurry and this driver is causing me to be late. Both scenarios have a simple response. Pray to Jesus before you get behind the wheel to be safe and protected from other drivers on the road, plan to leave early to avoid agitation when encountering other drivers in your lane.
However, we’re human. We continuously place ourselves in situations that cause havoc with our thoughts. The poison is allowing the thought to manifest into a verbal action, that causes harm to another.
What you say is powerful. It identifies your character to others, in the tone of your voice. Is it soft or harsh. Does it utter words of truth or deceitfulness.
James 3:5-6
See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the very world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our body’s parts as that which defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course or our life, and is set on fire by hell.”
Words are a sword. They offer support, encouragement or crush your spirit and leave lasting scars. The intent is to not instantly react with words you may regret, especially if your anxious, angry or frustrated. In these moments words are like fire that leave a trail of ashes of regret, and entangled weeds.
James 1:19
You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.
Anger is the root of the weed that leads to entanglement. It infiltrates your thoughts, burns internally, and before you know it, you’ve spewed words you can’t take back. It doesn’t mean you never get angry, as Jesus was angry, righteously, when he cast out vendors selling goods in His Father’s temple. The point of this verse is to hold the tongue, as when you’re angry in an unrighteous way, you may say things you don’t mean.
How to be prepared?
Analyze the situation and ask God for guidance. As aforementioned, when it comes to driving say a prayer to Jesus to keep you safe. If you’re running late, give your frustration to Jesus as He is your rock, fortress, and wants to help you.
Daily, devote time to be with Jesus and the Heavenly Father in reading, meditating, and memorizing scripture. As the knowledge of the Word opens the door for Jesus and His Father to mend your heart, thoughts, and fill you with everlasting peace. Lean on them to calm the storm and heal the root of negative thoughts through the Holy Spirit.
Weeds in your life not only involve what you think and say, but your actions as well.
Matthew 13:24-43
The Parable of the Weeds
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
“The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
“‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
“‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time, I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
In this parable the wheat is symbolic of the righteous and weeds are the enemy. An enemy that is forever around you, planting seeds of doubt, envy, jealousy, self-pity, and feeding your selfish desires, creating the entanglement. To walk with Jesus is to be aware of these attacks in your thoughts and behaviours.
I find; we’re plagued with many weeds that twist and turn to lead us astray from God’s purpose. Sadly, it’s easy to fall into this trap. However, Jesus didn’t leave you alone to fight these battles. When you surrender your life into His hands, you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide you. Moreover, use the Word as a weapon like Jesus did when He fasted for forty days and was tempted by Satan. In each response, Jesus referenced scripture.
One that is extremely useful when you feel you’re knitting negative thoughts, is to wear the Armor of God.
Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Let’s Pray,
It’s with discipline, commitment, and meditating the Word that our minds and hearts are renewed.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
To help you in your journey, I created a Prayer Journal, to build a closer bond with Christ Jesus. A journal that helps to identify areas in your life you can decrease so Jesus can increase in your life. A beautiful tool to express your thoughts, study scripture and learn to surrender areas of your life you may still cling to. We are human and letting go of control in every area of your life can be a challenge. This journal helps you to identify those behaviours through prayer, so He increases, and you decrease.
The journal is in a digital format where you can print numerous copies of each page. The design is based on a variety of different formats to enhance your relationship and prayer time with Christ Jesus.
It helped me with clarity, hope, increasing my trust in Jesus, and growing my relationship in Him.

Blog-Twisted Roots
Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?
As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.
Fine Art Photography
I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal. When the opportunity presented itself, I knew it was time to fulfill my dream.
I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or fine art available for wall décor.
