Don’t Be Deceived

Once upon a time, I wasn’t a morning person.

In fact, I used to place my alarm on my dresser located at the back of my bedroom, so I had to physically get out of bed to hit the snooze button. I’d do this ten times. Get up, turn it off, and go back to bed. I know, crazy right! But when you’re not a morning person, you literally need a train whistle beside your ear to wake up.

Now imagine this scenario when you forget to set your alarm.

On this one morning, I awakened with instant panic; aware the alarm wasn’t set.

Reality slammed me in the face, as I’d twenty minutes to get dressed, catch the express bus, or I’d be late for work.

I rummaged through my closet, quickly grabbed a black and red jacket, black pleated skirt, and black tank top. My heart was beating so fast, I could barely think. I dressed, brushed my teeth, grabbed my purse, rushed out the door, nearly forgot to lock it, and then made a mad dash to the bus stop.

But first, I had to cross one of the busiest intersections in the city which was torture because time was slipping away, and the bus would show up at any moment.

The light turned green. I ran across the street, then my eyes widened as I could see the tip of the blue roof of the bus coming up over the hill. The block to the bus stop was no ordinary block, it was like three blocks joined as one. I ran so fast I thought my heart would burst.

The bus turned the corner, stopped at the bus stop, and signaled to enter the main road. I screeched at the top of my lungs ‘stop the bus’, thankfully, someone saw me frantically waving my arms.

I was sooo relieved.

I made it!

I found a seat and was wearing my happy face until I glanced down. My eyes widened in horror, my face turned a pasty white, as I noticed there were no pleats in my skirt. In my rushed state, I forgot to put it on.

This scenario, although humorous and true, can relate to our daily life. You snooze facing uncomfortable situations, making difficult decisions, learning something outside of your comfort zone. You race through the day if you have multiple responsibilities i.e. taking little Samantha to dance class, dropping off Johnny to hockey practice, picking up groceries, doing laundry, preparing dinner. As you run around doing your utmost to complete your to-do-list, you have no time to pause and be aware of your appearance, surroundings, or thoughts. Your life driven on autopilot until something happens to obscure the flow. Then suddenly you’re awake. Faced with a turn of events that can change your values and beliefs.

It’s in moments of turmoil and chaos you pause and re-evaluate the priorities of how you live your life. And today, everyone is faced with challenges that impact our ability to be sustainable.

There is no doubt life has turbulence. It’s how you react when routine is altered. The direction you take when you’re vulnerable. For me, it was new age. Learning we’re energy in a human body connected to everything...crystals, the universe, Mother Nature. It gave me purpose and excitement to learn more.

I loved the magic of oracle cards, reduced stress from crystals, and the awareness of spirit guides and angels in my life. To ask to see signs from the universe and see them days later. But I always felt there was something missing. I never felt fulfilled.

Do you ever feel this way? The need to feel special. To have a purpose without questions, or do you prefer to hit the snooze button, rush through life ignoring the stirrings of your heart for something more.

My ‘more’ was to be financially abundant. To be free to spread my wings and fly. To live a life full of joy, love, and happiness. But it didn’t matter how hard I tried, nothing changed. In new age culture, the inability to move forward is defined as being energetically blocked from an emotional scar that needs to be healed.

How do you get healed?

By a spiritual coach, meditation, a rage page, or positive affirmations where you tell yourself I am worthy, I am loveable, I am open to receive divine guidance. But what exactly is divine guidance? In new age, it isn’t God. So, who was I asking to receive divine guidance?

It’s a worthy question, as there is only one God. One expansive universe that God created. So, who was I talking to?

After six years of practicing new age methodologies, I learned I wasn’t communing with the universe, spirit guides or angels, it was demons.

New age is the perfect catalyst for demons to deceive and trick you by answering your questions, showing you visions, speaking to you, which new agers call channeling, and being guided.

Spiritual coaches have been known to be receptors of downloads of false information. There is one who wrote about the power and healing of unicorns, received through channelling as a download of pages upon pages of material. This person wrote books, created oracle cards, which as a former new ager, I was eager to learn. But it’s a lie. Only Jesus can heal you.

We’re so easily persuaded to believe in anything to lift our spirit and be empowered to live life on your own accord without God. Too many have fallen into this trap. It’s easy. There are many spiritual coaches promoting a positive way to live with the help of the universe, not with God, dangling a golden carrot for you to follow with their free give-aways.

There is only one truth...

John 14:6

I am the way, the truth, and the life.

When I realized the truth about new age, I immediately discarded everything connected to it and was blessed with the peace of Jesus Christ. I know in my heart I am His. I am saved. I am healed.

Jesus has a zeal to know you, as you are created to shine His light.

When you surrender to Jesus, He’s there for you when you’re troubled with a loving and compassionate heart.

Psalm 63:7

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

One of the affirmations I used to rehearse daily was—I can, and I will.

With Jesus, this has changed to—I can’t, you can.

I can’t save myself or rescue my soul from darkness, Jesus can. He is the only one who is able.

If you’re stable routine has been uprooted, leaving you searching for comfort and healing, Jesus is there to face the battle with you. He knows how you feel. He sees you for who you really are and loves you. New age can’t compete with His love for you, nor His forgiveness, and salvation.

I’ve learned this as my life is a turbulent storm—faced with having to sell our home. If you’d approached me nine months ago with this ultimatum, I’d never have accepted it. My home was my sanctuary. I did everything to stay in it, as I couldn’t imagine not living in my house. I’m also selling most of everything I own. In the past, it’d tear me apart to sell my possessions. Now I look at them and ask—do I really need it? What purpose does it fill?

God rides the storm with you. It’s the only way I have the emotional capacity to do what needs to be done.

When you praise God in the storm, you don’t need to hit the snooze button or rush from one task to another, as He removes the fear, worry, anxiety and replaces it with His peace.

To know God is with me and what’s best for me, is my hope and salvation to carry on. It’s a state I never believed possible. Yet, here I am, ready for the next phase in my life. I’m not hitting the snooze button or rushing, I’m calm.

The days given to you to experience life matter. How you live them is your choice. I pray you won’t turn your back or miss something special as you rush through life.

God Bless.

Blog-Twisted Roots

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.

Fine Art Photography

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
