How to Survive in a Corporate World
It’s easy to fall prey to the entangled corporate world or be prey to others. You may have an overbearing boss, expectations that don’t align with your beliefs, or co-workers that complain, or betray your trust. However, you have a choice—be disheartened or change your perspective.
You’re born with skills and abilities to serve a purpose, which can range from being a leader, teacher, engineer, lawyer, doctor, home maker, or a creative. The intent is to use these gifts, as God didn’t create you to be idle. He wants you to be productive and use your time wisely.
Proverbs 18:9 warns, “Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.”
The brother to him who destroys is Satan. His goal is...
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
More specifically...
To steal your identity.
Kill your hope and joy.
Destroy relationships.
And he never rests.
You are his target in everything you think and do.
It’s when you choose your way, believing you’re in control, the enemy thrives.
James 3:16
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.
It reminds me of a FB post where a political leader was shown the difference between hell and heaven. In hell, he saw people he knew—playing golf on a serene golf course, laughing and enjoying the warmth of the sun. In heaven, he saw people content and at peace. But the golf game and seeing his friends joyful, intrigued him, so he chose hell. However, when he arrived, it wasn’t what was shown. His friends were downtrodden, their faces bleak, and there was no sunshine, only darkness. He was horrified and asked what happened to the joyful scene he’d been shown prior, and was told, it was the campaign to get you hooked.
This is what the enemy does.
He strives to distract you from living your true purpose. He throws obstacles in your path, so you feel hopeless and forgotten. Or he makes you rise in the corporate world. Creates a path that leads to one promotion after another, so you sink in an ocean of success, and forget what’s important—love of togetherness, compassion, supporting others, as you’re consumed with more and more.
However, the more in your life, is to focus on a relationship with God. For Him to be the authority, employer, and boss.
If you encounter a difficult problem, seek His advice.
If you have a strained relationship with a co-worker, seek His peace, and pray for your co-worker.
When in doubt or fearful of losing your position, pray to the Lord and ask for His guidance.
If you encounter success, praise the Lord.
Apostle Paul reminds us that Jesus not only created all things, He also redeems all things––including your work, and what you do during the day.
Colossians 1:15-17
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Jesus makes it all.
Jesus redeemed it all.
It’s the Lord Christ you serve.
Proverbs 16:3 reads, “Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”
Yet for many, work is viewed as a painful toil, a necessity to survive. This view hinders the joy of utilizing skills to meet your financial needs. A reality compounded with lack of opportunities, which can lead to despair, and even thoughts of suicide. It’s exactly where the enemy wants you. To feel broken and hopeless.
However, when you commit your work to the Lord, He does establish your plans.
I was in a place where my monthly financial responsibilities increased significantly. I was riddled with fear and didn’t know what to do. Through prayer and the Lord’s guidance, I applied for a position and within a week I was working. I’d been seeking employment sporadically for two years and this position presented itself when I needed it most.
However, re-entering the workforce wasn’t without challenges. I was confronted with one trial after another. A dear friend reminded me...
Jesus feels my pain and frustration.
He is with me in this.
To trust God’s plan.
Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
When I accepted the Lord as judge of my actions, that I serve Him, everything changed. In return, He blessed me with meeting the expectations of my position, which at times, seemed like a mountain of impossible. But I reminded myself, I work for Him, not for human masters.
You spend the majority of your day at work. But work is more than a place to earn money to pay bills. It’s using your skills to serve a greater and eternal purpose in God’s plan for you.
Apostle Paul was familiar with the daily responsibilities to earn an income, as he was an entrepreneur, who built and sold tents to fund his ministry. He taught that in the daily course of your life, whatever you do is sacred and missional, as it’s God’s calling—sacred and divine.
I refer to the lyrics of Katy Nichole’s newest release, “Have Your Way”...
“Lord, have your way in my life,
In my heart, in my soul, in my mind,
Cause I know your plans are better than mine.”
The Bible also assures us that at the glorious return of Christ, we’ll not only see the redemption and glorification of God’s people; we’ll also see God ushering in new heavens and a new earth. (Isaiah 65:17– 25). However, work is still an integral part of the new creation. You need to work, feel useful, and be unified in God’s purpose.
When you walk with the Lord, you’re blessed with the guidance of the Holy Spirit as to the where, when and how, you use your skills. It can be a challenging highway as what you perceive may not coincide with what God foresees. However, pursuing God’s plan with grace and humility, will leave an imprint, a seed, that can open a door to further communication and opportunities to serve Him.

Heavenly Father,
We bow our heads in servitude to you. In our workplace, businesses, and activities. Bless our skills and open our hearts to your guidance to view work and what we do as sacred and missional, to give us the wisdom, patience, and faith to overcome obstacles and display humility and excellence in your name.
Amen,
Prayer is powerful, intimate, and personal. It’s also a petition to our Heavenly Father to intercede on behalf of others. Mostly, it’s communicating and expressing with heart felt passion, to a God who sacrificed everything to break the curse of sin that separated you from Him. He desires to hear your words, be in His presence, and learn to love Him more and more.
