The Obscurity of Life

Do you ever wish life could flow like a river, as it moves towards its fixed purpose. A life with no pain, worries, or fear.

Have you ever thought—why can’t life be easy? Why does it have to be so hard?

In truth, without experiencing the tumbled broken days, you’d never know a compassionate or grieving heart, learn forgiveness, or embrace peace. These emotions would be foreign to you, as you’d have a life without turmoil. Just imagine having everything you ever wanted where the flow of life moves effortlessly and all you feel is bliss. A wonderful thought; however, unrealistic.

Life is full of strife. It’s what builds resilience, character, inner strength. But it’s in the obscurity of life, wrapped in sorrow and grief that can keep you frozen, unmovable. It’s in these moments, you lose hope, as all you feel is the numbness of pain. More so when you’re crippled with grief from the loss of a loved one.

This pain can dissect the person you are, as you’re consumed with unimaginable loss. I know. I’ve walked this path. It can strike you down, where even getting out of bed is an effort, as you wonder, what’s the point.

When I lost my brother unexpectedly at 18, he was 23, all I wanted was for the pain to end. It was a state I wished no one would endure, as the pain was deeper than any ocean. It was almost surreal. You know people die, it’s the cycle of life, but when it happens, it rips out joy and how you know life, shifts. You’re no longer the person you were a minute before you heard the news.

This is how the disciples felt when they witnessed the crucifixion of their mentor, teacher, Lord, and friend, Jesus. Their hearts shifted with the grief of His loss.

Jesus’ death was the most horrific in history. What people did to Him, is inconceivable. He was whipped close to death, beaten, a crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp. Forced to carry His own cross for almost 2 kilometers, while the crowd hurled insults, spat in his face, and threw stones. His death was worse than criminals as He was nailed to the cross. Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long. When He took His last breath, there was no more blood in His body. He’d bled out.

Imagine the suffering, courage, pain, He endured for over 3 hours. Imagine being one of His disciples, His mother, unable to do anything but watch the horror happen to someone they love.

Yet, when Jesus rose from the dead, which He promised His disciples would happen, they didn’t believe. They didn’t recognize Him when He walked beside them, as they were so blinded by their grief. They also didn’t believe when Mary Magdalene told them she saw Him, as in their minds, her words were ramblings and nonsensical.

Mary also didn’t see Jesus when He stood in front of her. In John 20:10-14:

‘As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot’.

They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize it was Jesus.

Pain blinds you from the truth, as it grips your soul and hurls you into hopelessness, squashing any joy that may be standing in front of you.

In scripture, Jesus is described as the morning star. The dawn in waiting to encounter you. He waits for you with a longing and compassionate heart for you not to say in whispers, but with a heartfelt cry, to ask for His help.

He spilt His blood willingly so He could wash you clean from your indiscretions, make you new like spring, reborn and renewed.

Once He becomes a part of your life, He fills you with His peace. Those were the first words He spoke to me, ‘peace be with you.’ I called out to Him when I desperately needed His healing, and He saved me. Now, I walk clothed in His peace.

He takes away pain or walks beside you when you’re hurting so you can bear the pain. There is nothing He wouldn’t do for you, as He knows your pain. He felt it on every level when He was crucified and is willing to help you carry your pain, lift you out of the depths of despair and shine in His light.

That’s why He suffered the death He did. He became the sacrificial lamb so you could have the choice to walk with Him and commune with our Heavenly Father, as it’s only through Jesus you get to the Father.

Our loving Father can’t wait to meet you. To talk with you. It warms His heart when you come to know His son and get close to Him.

Let Him remove the obscurities that block you from feeling hope in your heart. Let your hope shine through Jesus. Allow Him to pick you up out of the shadows and take care of you.

Imagine a life with Him being your guide, shepherd, who knows you intricately and intimately. Who knows the stirrings of your heart, your soul, who dances with joy when He’s present. Let Him guide you down the current of life with Him by your side, as He promises to never leave you nor forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5

‘Never will I leave You. Never will I forsake you.

You may be the person who seeks a life of bliss, to follow the river current without the obscurities of life, but the obscurities will find you, it’s inevitable. Just imagine, how much easier it’d be with Jesus, who loves you so much, He died the way He did to save you.

God Bless,

Blog-Twisted Roots

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.

Fine Art Photography

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
