5 Tips to Audit Your Words
In business, you audit your books, but do you ever audit your words?
Do your words matter. Provide impact. Encouragement. Express compassion and gratefulness.
How you communicate is an expression of how you feel. If you’re irritable, your tone will be sharp. If excited, high-pitched. If sad, melancholy. If angry, loud and harsh, or if you’re a boss, assertive, direct, or demanding. As a mother to a newborn, calm and soothing.
Sometimes, you may not be aware of how your tone impacts others. It’s an emotional response either hidden or visually apparent in the person you’re communicating with.
Words educate, empower, enlighten, or demote, degrade, and deflate those around you. It represents how you build relationships with your choice and tone of words.
The Pastor at church last week highlighted 5 ways to audit and be cautiously aware of how you speak.
Ephesians 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love..
Speak Accurately
Speak with truth, sincerity, dignity, and respect. This form of communication develops healthy relationships, builds trust and evolves into a loving partnership. People are more appreciative when spoken to in a tone that makes them feel appreciative and of value.
Proverbs 25:11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
Speak Appropriately
Listen to the interchange of words and respond in a tone that understands and relates to the conversation. So often, we don’t pay attention to words spoken. We get sidetracked or revert the discussion back to ourselves instead of maintaining the focus on the person expressing their views and opinions. Be attentive and respond with words to show your compassion and discernment.
Proverbs 10:19
In the multitude of words sin is not lacking. But he who restrains his lips is wise.
Speak Advised
It’s better to be silent than to utter words that harm another. It reminds me of the story in scripture where people gathered to stone an adulteress. Jesus appeared and said, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” It’s the same when multitude of words are expressed to manipulate, lie or coerce others to do something that is wrong and you join, like the crowd ready to throw a stone. To practice restraint is wiser than falling into sin.
Colossians 2:7
Overflowing with thankfulness
Speak Appreciatively
In all things, express yourself with gratitude, encouragement and optimism. This will teach you to see things in a brighter light, even when you or another are experiencing hardship. It’s a difficult undertaking; however, I’ve learned when you express thankfulness in prayer, or verbally to another, trials and tribulations become lighter to carry.
Acts 2:11
We hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God
Speak Anointed
Be still and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you. Express words that are anointed by Christ. Allow yourself to be His instrument in communicating words to educate and guide others in times of duress.
It’s up to you to be aware of when your tongue is out of control, as words can trap you in maddening scenarios that can be avoided if you practice diligence and wisdom i.e. when to walk away, keep silent, and be grateful.

Blog-Twisted Roots
Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?
As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.
Fine Art Photography
I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!
I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
