Do You Get Hung Up on Feeling Worthy?

Life can feel full of expectations. Following plans your parents set for you, maintaining popular trends to fit in, having a beautiful house, car, wearing designer clothes to feel recognized, a career that is financially viable, grown children with success stories. These expectations can wear you down, and make you feel unworthy if you don’t meet them.

This feeling of unworthiness is like a virus. It follows you everywhere—what you say, how you present yourself to others. It never leaves you. It can haunt you with sleepless nights as you toss and turn thinking what you said, did, or riddle you with guilt. It’s in your guilt that unworthiness sneaks in, making you feel regret, dread, as the dream life you envisioned didn’t materialize.

Events like losing a job, an unexpected divorce, adult children with no motivation and always in need of help. Situations that leave you exhausted while you do your best to maintain your sanity and presence in society. You hide behind excuses and avoid the truth as you don’t want people to view you in a different light. Then jealousy rears its head—consumed with questions on why others have it so much better than you.

You can’t deny these thoughts when you’re bound to society expectations or avoid the main question that makes you numb...is this all there is.

  • The mindless expectations that have no substance.

  • The false reality to feel accepted.

  • The fake smile where inwardly you’re screaming.

Not only has the unworthiness virus gripped you, but fear as well. Fear, you’re bound to a false identity, nothing will change, and life will continue to be hopeless.

It’s true each of us suffer. It’s an unavoidable fact. However, God initially created life to be harmonious. This changed when sin entered the world.

The enemy thrives when you wallow in self-worth. He’ll play on every word you tell yourself.

  • I don’t deserve happiness.

  • I’ll never be financially sustainable.

  • I’ll never be as beautiful as her.

  • I have no one to talk to.

  • I’m alone.

  • I’m a fake.

  • No one will accept me as I am.

It’s in these thoughts you lose your identity. You forget your purpose. God gifted you with talents, skills, that are unique in serving His purpose. However, when you suffocate your thoughts with statements of unworthiness, His voice fades in the whirlpool of guilt, remorse and fear. Then you fall.

You fall as taking on these burdens, false beliefs, leads to emotional landslides. You’re human and the body can only take in so much before it breaks. However, it’s in the release of these emotions you find...

  • Truth.

  • Potential.

  • Purpose.

  • Worthiness.

A place where God holds you, as He’ll catch you when you fall. It’s up to you to recognize His presence and how much He wants to mold you into fine wine. It’s a process of removing one layer at a time.

And no one can replace God, or His Son, Jesus.

There is only one God, and I know how much He loves you. He eagerly waits for you to say, “help me Lord be myself in you.”

He desires for you to forget the past, as it doesn’t define your future. Your future can change in an instant. Like a breeze, its movement is unexpected. You can have goals and a plan to make it happen. However, circumstances can arise that may change the outcome.

One thing that is a guarantee is when Jesus died He tore the veil, opened a door to rescue you from darkness and bless you with a new identify.

An identity that is...

  • Honest.

  • Real.

  • Born in truth.

  • Filled with hope; and,

  • Free.

  • Freedom to voice your truth and not feel bound by societal expectations.

  • Freedom to know in God’s eyes you are worthy.

God doesn’t judge your appearance, what you have, all He wants is your heart. To surrender to His will in gratitude with faith in His word. To study His love letters so you can build habits that aren’t bound to worldly expectations. To bless you with His courage to walk tall and accept the beautiful person you are, without caring what other people think.

  • It’s your time.

  • Your life.

  • Your decision.

  • To live your true identity.

Colossians 1:13-14

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

It’s in the breath of the Holy Spirit, gifted when you surrender your life to Christ Jesus, that allows you to breathe freely knowing God has forgiven and redeemed your sins.

The journey will have uphill and downhill battles. However, you’ll be free of earthly expectations. Your food will be the word. The wind your salvation. And new words such as faith, trust, love, and follow me, will replace doubts in your heart.

It’s in the renewal of God’s words you’ll find your identity. A place where you’re accepted with open arms and unmeasurable love.

You were chosen by God, as you are worthy.

He knows your limitations, the mirror of your soul.

He is eager for you to open the door and invite His will to move through you.

To heal and refine you into the person He sees you as being, using your skills in service to Him.

“Freedom begins when we release false identities and step into God’s truth.”

I created a journal specific to this blog post titled, “Worthy in Christ,” to help you identify lies you tell yourself. It includes scripture to meditate on and affirmations to change the way you think and embrace God’s love.

The Prayer Journal is available as a digital download at my ETSY Store, at Archway Designs by CFC Studios.

Hi, I’m Cathy.

A creative professional passionately driven to pointing people away from new age indoctrination to find redemption in Jesus Christ and encouraging others in their walk with the Lord.

I’m a mixed blend, excited to share all I offer...

Blog-Twisted Roots

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination. It also highlights other areas to inspire and encourage Christians in their walk of faith.

Prayer Journals

To help you in your journey, I created Prayer Journals, to build a closer bond with Christ Jesus.

As you grow in your faith, it’s important to dedicate time to be with God in prayer, a quiet space to meet with Him, and invite Him into your daily thoughts. In doing so, you will experience His peace and presence in every aspect of your life.

Fine Art Photography

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal. When the opportunity presented itself, I knew it was time to fulfill my dream.

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or fine art available for wall décor.
