How Your Heart Speaks To You

You are the representation of your heart. How you speak. React. What you believe. Criticize. Praise. Hate. Love. All comes from the heart of your soul and developed in layers through experience.

Life experiences form how you think you should behave and what you think you should believe. All designed by the environments you cohabit. Your home. Work. Social life. You build your community and surroundings driven by the desires, passions and needs of the heart.

The journey your heart takes isn’t simple. It’d be great if it was all rainbows and roses, but it’s not a realistic portrayal of the evolution of the heart.

What matters is the impact of these events. How they mold you into the person you see standing before you. A person with adopted, learned characteristics, built on truth and some on false impressions.

For me, I was raised with the belief that money doesn’t grow on trees. I’m sure many can relate to this statement. Moreover, rich people deserve respect and are intelligent. This belief built a foundation that to be respected, you had to be rich with a successful career.

This rang true when I worked as a legal secretary. I put lawyers on a pedestal. They were smart, rich, everything I was raised to respect and admire. I’d mixed feelings in their presence—a high regard of respect for their accomplishments, but comparatively, I placed myself beneath them, as a lowly servant.

These beliefs infiltrate your life in subliminal ways. It can fuel a hardened heart and ignite feelings of envy or jealousy.

It’s a belief that has hypnotized people for centuries. Another saying, ‘the rich get richer, the poor get poorer’. But is this really true?

It’s true the rich have more than they need. But what about their heart. Is it compassionate? Greedy? Loving?

Scripture is very clear on the differences between the rich and the poor.

1 Timothy 6:9

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

Matthew 19: 21-24

Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

The riches of this world can blind you as you lack for nothing. It turns the heart inward to believe possessions and status is the true path to power. Sadly, people are easily manipulated when it comes to money, especially when a desperate heart is the motivator. It breeds greed and changes your heart to desire, control, and power. It leads to separation, broken marriages, and damaged relationships. Yet, millions, if not billions, desire to have their bank accounts overflowing with money, as it provides freedom to do whatever you want. Many, overcome with desperation, will plot, rob, steal, or blackmail, to get what they believe is owed to them.

As a reformed new ager turned Christian by the grace of God, financial abundance was the main focus. It was an oracle card of ‘abundance’ that made my heart skip a beat. In new age money is considered spiritual, a flow of energy, that is deserving. It’s what I envisioned, being a successful entrepreneur, living in a mansion, and driving a Porsche. A person of status, as opposed to a lowly servant. This path led my heart away from God and the richness of His Kingdom. It blinded me from the truth...

Luke 6:20-21

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”

Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you; this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

You can easily donate to charities or other causes when you’re wealthy, as it won’t break your bank account. Yet, how many of the rich would give their fortune away to help others.

I found one, Charles F. Feeney. A pioneer of duty-free shops that grew into a global enterprise, with shops in airports and cities across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. In short, Mr. Feeney was a billionaire.

He quoted:

“I just reached the conclusion with myself that money, buying boats and all the trimmings didn’t appeal to me.”

He walked away from an extravagant lifestyle of limousines, wealthy social groups, fancy restaurants, first class flights, to subways, cabs, transit buses, flying economy class, and buying clothes off the rack.

In his last decades, he didn’t own a home or a car. He lived in a 2-bedroom apartment with his wife and wore a $10 wristwatch.

He donated the majority of his estate to various charities. A rare example of a man with a generous heart who flipped his lifestyle to revert back to his roots of living modestly.

His belief on religion:

“I was raised a Catholic, but I got up to go to church because I thought I'd be hit by a bolt of lightning if I didn't.”

It’s with a heart of giving, you find peace. However, true peace is a gift chosen to those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He is the true giver of a rich and abundant life. But not in the way you think. His riches are blessings in the Kingdom of Heaven.

2 Corinthians 8:9

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Rich in His grace, blessings, peace, and His Father’s Kingdom.

I’m not saying that Jesus and Our Heavenly Father want you to live a life of poverty, however, He does desire your sacrifice, with the awareness life on earth is a training ground that leads to the richness of spirit, depending on the choices of the heart.

2 Corinthians 8:2

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.

A friend reminded me...

“Life in the kingdom tends to be opposite of the world. In the kingdom you have to go down to go up. You have to become less to become more. You have to give to receive.”

It’s by owning the fears, joys, and pain that lead to the path of God’s Kingdom through facing the trials of the heart, as your heart guides you with every thought and action.

Proverbs 4:23

“Above all else, guard the heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

Quote from author, Dr. Rob Reimer from his book ‘Soul Care’

“The first order of business in keeping your soul rightly aligned with God is to guard the condition of your heart.”

God leads you down unexpected paths when you give your all to Him, as He knows your heart, what it needs to grow in His spirit. When you seek Him in everything you do, your life will come together like pieces of a puzzle made whole. That is the evolution of the heart. To listen and follow the gentle guiding grace of the Lord. As God’s goal is to soften your heart. Peel away layers that have bound you to false expectations. He wants you to own the truth to the whispers of your heart, listen to its pulse that prevents you from seeing His light. To face the truth of the pain, suffering, joy, and peace. Like the current of a river, flowing over rocky terrain, spilling over cliffs, and then simmering quietly to its destination. With Him in your heart, you have a richness that will complete you.

Your heart holds the secrets to who you are. I admit, it’s not easy to look at the darkness God wants to heal. To dig deep and listen to your heart’s cries and joys. The goal is to focus on God’s intention—to break the chains that hold you in resistance to His healing.

Think of your heart like the birth of a rose, it opens one petal at a time, until it reaches perfection. With each bloomed petal, you learn a little more about yourself. Areas of your life where you need to forgive and be forgiven, as it’s with forgiveness your heart grows more light.

My friend referred to a statement she saw on a billboard in front of a church...

“You make the choice. God makes the change.”

To accept God’s guidance, will change your heart. It’ll lead to blessings you’d never imagine. It can be a simple, ‘yes, I’m ready, Father’, or if you’re not ready, sit in silence, listen to the rhythm of your heart, until it prompts you to take that leap of faith. It’s in you to decide.

God Bless,

Blog-Twisted Roots

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.

Fine Art Photography

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
