Myths—Twin Souls, Soul Mates and Love

As we strive to find joy, happiness, and love in our life, we can subject ourselves to believing in myths such as soul mates and twin souls.

To find a soul mate or twin soul, is a journey many in new age manifest, as it’s believed to be the ultimate connection, where you can feel the physical and emotional pain and joys of your twin or soul mate.

I’ve encountered this to be true in close and intimate relationships. Married couples thinking the same thought at the exact same moment, the intuitive unsettled feeling in the pit of your stomach that makes you uneasy, only to find out that a loved one has been hurt or become ill. I believe when we love fiercely, we can develop this inner connection.

Love, after all, is the main ingredient to feel valued, appreciated and cared for. It can make our steps light, our hearts filled with joy, and tame the wildest of beasts. It’s the key to all things.

But what it isn’t is self-seeking, easy to anger. It doesn’t envy or hold grudges and resentments towards others.

1 Chorinthians 13:4-5

‘Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, and does not keep and record of wrongs.

Even if you don’t read the bible this verse is well-known, as we all seek to be loved. To share our life with another who loves us unconditionally. This poem, from the movie ‘Happiness for Beginners’ written by Pablo Neruda, is a beautiful example of how deep we love...

The poem was written has a declaration of love to the author’s wife. A beautiful play of words that sings to your heart.

When you’re alone searching for that special someone this poem can sweep you away into never never land, a yearning to find that one true love—soul mate or twin soul. But it can also lead you into believing something that isn’t necessarily true.

I know some fantasize an imagined reality, as we long to be swept away on a magic carpet ride where we can soar in the arms of someone who loves us.

There are numerous books, movies, and songs all based on love. How it lifts us up or on the flip side, left on the curb side drowning with a broken heart. I wrote a romance novel and loved writing every word. It was a wonderful experience to create an imaginary world where two people fall deeply in love. These books, movies, and songs give us hope in a world desperate to find love.

Some might say, love only comes to the lucky ones. But when you lift your heart towards the heavens and become aware of what true love is, your heart will change its strong desire and need to find an imaginary love.

With the dawn of each new day, God’s mercy is renewed, he covers us with his unending love, sent his own son as a sacrifice for our sins.

When you ponder the thought of how God sent his only Son, who was with him in the beginning, having to turn away at the moment of his death, and then celebrate his return home, is a love deeper than any ocean.

I believe what connects us, is love. A gift freely given to us by God. It’s this energy that lives and breathes in all He created.

Perhaps there is a perfect someone for you, as love at first sight does happen. The question to ask, is there a soul mate / twin soul for everyone? Should it be our goal to search through the storms of life to find him / her.

Scripture says...

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

When you walk the path of Christ, He comes first, as He died for our sins so we could be saved and be gifted the Holy Spirit, and everything else comes after.

I know there are many desperate to find the ‘perfect’ love to share their life and not be alone. I’ve been there.

I remember the ache in my heart and fulfilling that space with one romance novel after another, staring at the empty pillow beside me wondering if anyone would be there to hold and love me unconditionally.

I didn’t marry until I was 35. However, I was haste in my decision, as I didn’t want to be alone. Now married for 28 years, it’s been a challenging marriage with only a few years of joy.

In desperation, we make choices to fill the emptiness in our hearts and lose out on other opportunities that God may have in store for you.

My only advice is don’t waste your time and energy searching for soul mates or twin souls, as the perfect person that God chooses for you may already be in front of you or waiting in the sunlight for the right moment to meet you.

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
