Rescued from the Darkness

Proverbs 30:4

Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? What is His “name or His Son’s name”? Surely you know!

Jesus is the force of nature. He is the wind that changes the seasons in your life. He purifies your sins with water. He came from Heaven, descended into the depths of hell, and ascended into Heaven. There is no other like Him. His purpose, to gather His flock in preparation of His return. To seek and save the lost (Luke 19:1-10). He has a zeal to know you as you are created to shine His light.

Forever is my plight, as I make my way through the mist, blinded in darkness, always searching to find the light.

Shortly after my brother died when I was very young, I had this dream of walking in my home. I saw air particles in the darkness, furniture, hallways, and in each room and hallway I desperately tried to turn the lights on, but when I touched the light switch, it wouldn’t move. In the darkness lurked creatures, with the sole purpose to tear at my body. I couldn’t escape them. In the next scene, I was walking down ancient stairs lit by candlelight. I can still see the cement walls and stone staircase that wrapped around a corner and led to a room with a single bed. It was a cell. Then I saw his face. A sharp nose, hair black as midnight and eyes, void of life, inches from my face. Instantly, I shifted into a different scene. The warm glow of the sun birthing the night illuminated railway tracks I stood between. A friend approached. She’d one red eye and one green. My body felt like led as I struggled to wake up from this deep sleep. Then I began to feel my body tingle and my eyes flew open.

Each of us deals with loss differently. For me, I realized how precious life is. I was filled with an overwhelm of compassion for each person I saw, as it could be their last waking day. Did this sense of compassion and love towards another invite this dream to occur. A dream that haunted me for years. On more than one occasion I discussed it with a Pastor or Priest; however, it didn’t lead me to Jesus. It made me confused and afraid, as I knew the face was the devil, and proved darkness is real. This became more apparent when I saturated myself in new age indoctrination, believing I was being rescued by the light. Doreen Virtue, a new ager converted to Christianity, was an author of numerous oracle cards, books, was well-known for her intuitive insight. She posted this on Instagram:

“Be aware of entering the dark road! If we’re not alert and cautious, we may unknowingly enter the winding path to hell. It starts with something seemingly innocent and normal such as yoga, energy healing, mindfulness, astrology, or law of attraction.

Then the appetite grows for gaining more secret wisdom and greater personal power. All along this dark path, the demons allure people with promises of love, purpose, healing, abundance, and specialness. Unless God intervenes, people can find themselves going into darker places of witchcraft, sorcery, occultism, and Satanism.”

When I first started my journey in new age, it seemed completely innocent, I loved crystals, relied on oracle cards, and frequently received energy healing. It was a path I found enlightening, exciting, and was grateful there were resources and spiritual coaches within the small city I once resided. However, as Doreen alludes, it leads you down a path of darkness.

1 Peter 5:8

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

New age is the perfect arena for the devil to gather people to devour. To lead you away from our loving creator and His Son Christ Jesus and instill the belief that you control your destiny.

The truth, darkness is real. I experienced it after my brother passed and invited it in as a new ager. The darkness that gripped my soul still lingers, as it erases hope.

It’s hope that moves you forward, without it, what do you have? Emptiness. Despair. That’s what the devil wants because in this state your easy prey. He can trick you with thoughts of unworthiness, envy, jealously, and fear.

My motto throughout my journey is to never give up hope. To place it in the hands of Christ Jesus as He teaches me to place my faith and trust in Him. He has worked miracles in my life, wiped the slate clean and is now leading me on another journey, as the journey never ends. You continue to grow, to learn His grace, and transform into the person He envisions.

It leads me to Song of Songs 3:14...

“Night after night I’m tossing and turning on my bed of travail. Why did I let him go from me? How my heart now aches for him, but he is nowhere to be found! So, I must rise in search of him, looking throughout the city, seeking until I find him. Even if I have to roam through every street, nothing will keep me from my search. Where is he—my soul’s true love? He is nowhere to be found. Then I encountered the overseers as they encircled the city. So I asked them, “Have you found him—my heart’s true love?” Just as I moved past them, I encountered him, refusing to be feeble in my heart again. Now I’ll bring him back to the temple within where I was given new birth—into my innermost parts, the place of my conceiving.”

Song of Songs is a book of love between a bride and a groom. Throughout scripture, God refers to us as His bride. I adopted a different perspective from a 31-day devotional written by a friend. I view it as a communication from Jesus to show how deep His love is for you and how desperate we are to find Him. More so, when you walk away because you feel unworthy. You feel His absence. Alone to face the darkness on your own. You toss and turn as fear grips your heart, knowing the safety net of Jesus’s embrace has alluded you. Then you realize how you need Him in your life. You search for Him in desperation; however, He is closer than you imagine, waiting for you to call His name.

It's through Christ Jesus darkness is destroyed, as He is the light. It’s what I searched for in my dream. I needed His light but didn’t know how to call Him.

Once you know His touch, you’ll desire to be with Him. As He fills you with hope, peace, and salvation. He is not religious. He is counsellor, wonderful, Almighty God, creator of all, whose love surpasses the greatest heights of mountains and the furthest reach of the universe. You can only imagine how much He desires for you to be saved by Him. Only you can make the choice. He is the cleanser of darkness. Your rescuer. All you need to do is call His name.

God Bless

Blog-Twisted Roots

Do you find yourself asking questions about new age, whether the practices and beliefs are leading your soul to redemption?

As a reformed new ager, I was saturated in the belief I could co-create with the universe and manifest a life of abundance. But I was deceived. This blog is to point you to the truth of God’s words and how He perceives the new age indoctrination.

Fine Art Photography

I always dreamed of being a professional photographer when I grew up. It was a journey to reach this goal, but I did it!

I owned a home-based studio for over a decade but have been shooting images for two decades. Now, semi-retired, I have a collection of my most cherished images of landscape or nature available for wall décor.
